Planting Perseverance

Mother nature did not make flower planting easy this year. First there were many frosty nights and it was too risky to bring my homegrown seedlings up from the basement. Then when the frost threat passed and I DID bring them up, we switched to highs in the lower 80s with tropical humidity. The plants baked in their little greenhouses and needed watering twice a day.

When the seedlings were done getting used to the sun and wind and it was time to plant them, we had rain in the forecast every single day. It was a challenge deciding when to gamble on getting out all the gear, slathering on the sunscreen and finding my big garden hat before a pop-up shower or thunderstorm chased me back into the house.

Because we’re in a moderate drought right now I feel guilty saying I’m relieved that it didn’t rain as much as they said it would over the last 5 days.

I finished planting most of my flowerbeds over the weekend, and now I would welcome some rain!
