Amaranthus Anchor

This spring I planted some amaranthus plants in my flowerbeds for the first time in about 8 years. These annuals are great for anchoring the back of a sunny flower border.

Amaranthus varieties prefer full sun but they will thrive in part-sun (which is what I have). We had some severe weather in July, so I staked up my plants ahead of time so they wouldn’t topple. They are all still standing tall a month later.

I didn’t record which cultivar I’m growing this year, but my guess would be ‘Autumn’s Touch’. The plants grow 3 to 5 feet tall with green, gold and bronze seed heads.
