The American Bittern that my friend and I spotted at Horicon Marsh at the end of May has spent the entire summer near the floating boardwalk. He’s been the hit of birding social media, and by now he’s probably been seen by hundreds and hundreds of visitors.
This is normally a very secretive and challenging-to-spot bird species. For some reason this particular bird was quite happy to be out in the open and fishing for an audience this summer.
