If you’re like me, this one is more of a how NOT to feed starlings than a how-to. I’ve been taken to the cleaners one too many times by a huge flock of these birds. They can empty a hopper feeder or eat an entire suet cake in just one afternoon. And they go crazy for any seed mixes or suet cakes that contain peanuts.
Starlings will also eat cracked corn, sunflower seeds and millet and will eat from any feeder they can ravage. And they’re bullies at the feeders. I’ve seen Blue Jays, Hairy Woodpeckers and Mourning Doves try to stand their ground, but most other bird species head for the hills when starlings take over the feeding stations.
