I have really enjoyed watching the Common Redpolls at my feeders over the last month or so. They’re feisty and energetic, and thanks to my little windowsill microphone I also know they are very chatty.
Late last week I started to see fewer of them and assumed they’d probably started moving back up north to Canada. I was almost out of thistle (Nyger) seed which is their favorite food at my feeders, so over the weekend I was hemming and hawing about whether it was worth it to spend $25 purchasing another bag of seed. I decided to go for it and I’m glad I did because after yesterday’s snowstorm a flock of about 40 birds returned to my backyard.
