I will miss the Common Redpolls when they go back to Canada. Many already left during or just after one of the rain/snow events we had last week, but a few stragglers are still visiting my thistle feeders.
They are an irruptive species which means they travel to where the food is in the winter. The last time I saw any was 2018.
There must’ve been some food scarcity issues in Canada because the most redpolls I’ve ever seen at my feeders is three or four in any given winter, and there were days in February this year when I counted more than 75 of them in the yard at one time!
