The spring migrating blackbirds have returned! While I don’t mind the more-polite-at-the-feeders Red-winged Blackbirds, they brought along Common Grackles and European Starlings which are both piggies at the feeders.
Because seed and nuts are so ridiculously expensive, I’ll be altering what I put out for the next few weeks so as not to encourage any of the flocks to stick around.
Peanuts are their favorite. This flock emptied two hanging peanut feeders in just a couple of hours, and they also plucked every last nut from my platform feeders.
I’ll be going peanut-free until the coast is clear!
