Those memes that pop up on social media every year this time of year about “second winter” and “third winter” are no joke. It was 18 degrees when we woke up yesterday morning. The average low this time of year is 29. Yesterday’s high barely surpassed that and is 35 degrees colder than last Monday’s high. We’re moving in the wrong direction!
But you can tell spring can’t be stopped at this point. The sun is higher in the sky, and when you go outside you can hear the birds singing their spring breeding songs with gusto. It might not look like spring, but it sure sounds like it.
The buds are swelling on the shrubs and trees, the tulips and daffodils are poking out of the ground and the male goldfinches are well on their way to soon sporting their bright black and yellow summer feathers.
