I’m happy to have ‘Snow Nymph’ growing once again in my flowerbeds. This coccinea salvia attracts hummingbirds and has no problem thriving in areas that only get sun for half the day.
For several years now I’ve had difficulty finding any companies selling seeds for this 24-inch white salvia that grows all summer long if you keep it deadheaded. I always used it in the shadier corners of my flowerbeds to add some brightness.
I grow other coccinea salvias as well like ‘Coral Nymph’ and ‘Lady in Red’. All of them reach 24 inches tall and attract hummingbirds. They are easy to grow, have no pest issues, and the rabbits leave them alone.
I’ve seen ‘Lady in Red’ and ‘Coral Nymph’ for sale in the spring at garden centers, but I sprout my own plants from seed indoors each winter. I start them about 10 weeks before our last frost date (so about the first week of March). These salvias are great carefree plants for the middle of a flower border.
