I already had problems in late fall with starlings and grackles hogging all the suet in my suet cages. I read somewhere that pure suet blocks (no nuts or seeds) are still attractive to woodpeckers but not to the blackbirds.
Well, they were right about one thing. The blackbirds WILL leave a pure suet block alone!
But so will the woodpeckers. Oh they nibbled a little bit here and there, but they would much rather eat suet cakes packed with peanuts!
