A Renewed Interest

‘Cherokee Sunset’ is another rudbeckia that I haven’t appreciated as much as I should. I’ve been growing the cultivar for years now, but for the last few seasons I’ve been giving them scant attention and sprouting less and less of them. This summer they put on a spectacular show and reminded me why I fell in love with them in the first place:

The 3- to 4-inch flowers are double or semi-double and come in shades of orange, brown, gold and mahogany. The plants grow 24 to 30 inches tall. Like all rudbeckias they prefer full sun but perform wonderfully for me in partial-shade (although sometimes I have to stake the taller plants).
