A Happy ‘Major Wheeler’

I still can’t believe the ‘Major Wheeler’ Honeysuckle vine I purchased last year survived winter in an exposed barrel.

Last year it grew about 3 feet tall, but this year it has already climbed 6 feet and is loaded with flowers.

I had to add more stakes for all the new vines that appeared.

‘Major Wheeler’ honeysuckle flowers attract hummingbirds. In fact one of its nicknames is “hummingbird honeysuckle”.

I’ve seen one hummingbird in our yard so far this year, but that was back in April.

Usually hummingbirds become regular visitors to our yard once my annuals are in full bloom, so I’ll have to wait a few weeks yet.
