I grew some agastache plants from seed this year to plant in my pollinator flowerbed. But because some of them are first-year perennials, I knew they might not fill out very much this year.
Some Proven Winner salvias caught my eye at the garden center in May, and I thought they’d be perfect to add some substance and color to the pollinator bed while the new little perennials get established.
This is ‘Rockin’ Fuchsia’:

This plant fit the bill perfectly because it grows in a sturdy clump, fills out nicely and blooms until fall.
Better yet, it’s sterile so it never needs deadheading!
Its fuchsia flowers contrast beautifully with the dark-purple stem and calyx. It’s quite eye-catching:

‘Rockin Fuchsia’ grows 24 to 36 inches tall in part-shade to full sun.

I planted one plant in part-shade (it only gets morning sun) and the other one in the sunniest spot in my yard. You can’t tell that they are growing in completely different lighting conditions.
Both plants started blooming during the last week of May and haven’t stopped.

These plants are also drought-tolerant. Plus hummingbirds are back in the neighborhood, and I’ve already seen one sipping nectar from Rockin’ Fuchsia’!
There’s a lot to like about these sturdy, colorful plants.
