A Second Chance for Verbenas

I’ve tried growing many annual verbenas over the years, but they usually poop out on me by mid-summer, and I end up looking at green plants (and sometimes crunchy brown ones) with few or no flowers.

I saw a couple of promising verbenas at one of test gardens I toured a few weeks ago. I was encouraged that it was mid-August and they were still lush and full of blooms.

Pictured above are ‘Wildfire Rose’ and ‘Wildfire Dark Purple’ verbenas. They have a mounding habit and grow 8 to 12 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. They are extremely heat tolerant.

I was also impressed by the happy healthy look of the Aztec series. Pictured below are ‘Aztec Grape Magic’ and ‘Aztec Light Pink’. They grow 8-10 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide and thrive in heat and sun.
