I’m starting to worry about my infatuation with coral bells (Heuchera). It’s eerily similar to how my obsession with daylilies began. That’s ongoing and now involves over 400 different cultivars. I don’t have room in my garden for another plant passion, and yet here I am showing off my latest acquisition. This is ‘Blackout’:
This handsome selection has reddish-black foliage on compact plants that grow 12 to 18 inches tall. The younger leaves are very shiny.
‘Blackout’ thrives in shade to part-sun and sends up cream-colored flowers in May. My plant was in partial shade until we removed our apple tree recently. If the sun ever shines again, my plant will be shocked to learn it’s now growing in full sun.
