White Bleeding Heart

The white old-fashioned bleeding heart I bought last spring settled nicely into its new home.

It’s growing in a spot that gets shade for most of the morning and early afternoon, but then some full sunshine during the heat of the afternoon. I’m sure the plant would rather have the opposite light conditions (sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon), but so far it’s thriving.

It grew about 24 inches tall this year, and bloomed throughout May.

I like that rabbits aren’t interested in bleeding hearts. They’ve sampled or mowed down so many of my other perennials this spring.

Bleeding hearts die back later in the summer, so I planted this one close to a hosta that will take over much of that space for the rest of the growing season.
