Lily ‘Bonbini’

My Oriental and Orienpet lilies began blooming just as the really hot weather arrived recently. The flowers didn’t last as long as they usually do because they were baked mercilessly in the sun.

This is Orienpet lily ‘Bonbini’:

‘Bonbini’ has a pretty pink outline on the petals and a yellow-green center. The pink color appears much darker if the plant gets some protection from the afternoon sun. Alas, my plant sits in the only flowerbed in my yard that gets full sun. After a week of temperatures in the mid-90s, the pink color faded pretty fast. But ‘Bonbini’s’ flowers are still pretty even when they’re bleached out.

‘Bonbini’ grows 3 to 4 feet tall and blooms in July. The flowers are fragrant and the plant is hardy in zones 5-9.
