One of my flowerbeds is losing a battle with shade. This spring I finally dug out the sun-loving perennials growing there and planted more shade-tolerant plants including Astilbe ‘White Gloria’:
‘White Gloria’ grows 24 inches tall with dense white plumes. Astilbes grow best in part-shade but can tolerate half-day sun if they are kept well-watered.
My plant gets sunshine at the harshest hours of the day 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it flourished despite weeks of temperatures in the upper 80s and low-to-mid 90s this summer.
