Northern Cardinals are common in our neighborhood, but I usually see them alone or in pairs. This fall a small flock of them has formed, and I’ve counted at least 8 birds at time visiting my yard (all but 2 are males).
Some birds, like goldfinches, lose their summer plumage and sport dull gray or brown feathers in winter, but not male cardinals. Their red feathers flash like ornaments on the snowy winter landscape.
It will be fun to have this little flock around all winter sprucing up the neighborhood with color.
