The last plant to bloom in my yard this year was Solidago ‘Wichita Mountains’. In mid-summer I noticed a bare spot in one of my flowerbeds [GASP!]. Since the weather was much too beastly hot to divide any of my perennials, I decided to make an impulse purchase, and the plant that came home with me was ‘Wichita Mountains’.
This goldenrod grows 24 to 30 inches tall and showcases golden spikes loaded with tiny, daisy-like flowers:
It’s fun to have something new blooming in September and October when most of the other garden plants are ready to take a winter’s nap.
‘Wichita Mountains’ would pair nicely with mums or dark-purple asters. It’s hardy to Zone 4 and bees adore it:
