Construction Season

I noticed a pair of chickadees checking out some of my birdhouses last week. They took turns popping inside for inspections throughout the day, but so far I haven’t seen them haul in any nesting material. They have the choice of any birdhouse in our yard right now, but soon the wrens will arrive and competition will be fierce.

The chickadees aren’t the only birds pairing up. House Finches have already assembled a sloppy nest in an open nesting box on the side of our garage, and I’ve seen several pairs of sparrows and cardinals feeding their mates at the bird feeder.
