Heuchera ‘Blackout’

The dark color of heuchera (coral bells) ‘Blackout’ makes it a great plant to contrast with all the other green leaves in the garden.

The leaves of this heuchera are almost black with a reddish tint to them. In the shade and on cloudy days, the dark color is very prominent. I like planting ‘Blackout’ next to Tiarella (foamflower) ‘Sugar and Spice’ which has that same blackish-red color in the center of its green leaves:

On sunny days the plant’s leaves show much more red and are very shiny:

‘Blackout’ grows 6 to 12 inches tall and thrives in sun or part shade. White flowers appear in summer.
