I purchased a Gaillardia ‘Mesa Yellow’ plant last year. It bloomed, but I don’t remember it being particularly noteworthy.
However, this summer while all the other plants were flagging and melting in heat and drought, ‘Mesa Yellow’ shined. The fuzzy, yellow flowers have appeared consistently for more than 10 weeks now. Even when the temperature hit 103 degrees, ‘Mesa Yellow’ barely blinked.
‘Mesa Yellow’ is a 2010 Fleuroselect Gold Medal winner. The plants are compact and the flower stalks are sturdy and upright. If you want something that blooms all summer long, you can’t go wrong with ‘Mesa Yellow’.
