Baked ‘Bonbini’

Just like last summer, the weather got beastly-hot just as my Orienpet lilies started blooming. In fact this year it was 10 degrees warmer with temperatures in the low 100s. ‘Bonbini’ is supposed to have a noticeable, dark-pink halo in the center of the petals, but it fades in intense sunlight. By the time I noticed the flowers were blooming this year, the pink halo had almost completely disappeared.

The flowers are still very pretty and intensely fragrant. I hate to move my plant because it’s very healthy and happy where it is. It grows more than 4 feet tall on a thick, sturdy stalk.

Perhaps I’ll just buy another one and stick it in an area where it will have protection from the blazing July sun.
