I have my stand-by annuals, but every year I sprout something new or something I haven’t grown in awhile. This year it was ‘Salsa Purple’ salvias.
Like other salvias, ‘Salsa Purple’ is easy to sprout from seed (indoors) and the plants are easy to care for once they are tucked into the garden. I love their rich, purple color:
‘Salsa Purple’ grows 12 to 14 inches tall. The plants are never bothered by diseases, and other than the occasional munching earwig, pests don’t bother them either.
The purple flowers mix wonderfully with pinks, yellows, whites and reds. I like to be daring and plant them with coral zinnias:
