Flower Ideas: Show Me…Something Pink

Daylily ‘Royal Butterfly’ has 7-inch pale pink flowers with a rose halo and wide green throat. The plants grow 26 inches tall. My brother-in-law gave me a clump from his plant two years ago, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see how many flowers ‘Royal Butterfly’ sent up in just its first year in my garden.

‘Royal Butterfly’ is a dormant daylily that blooms in the middle of the daylily season.

Astilbe ‘Rheinland’ is a great perennial for the shady border. The clear-pink plumes reach 18 to 24 inches tall in mid-summer. The plants appreciate moist soil and happily grow in shade or part-shade. Astilbes can thrive in sunnier locations if they are kept well-watered. ‘Rheinland’ is hardy in Zones 4-8:

I love the Dreamland series of zinnias. They are rarely bothered by pests or diseases and they flower like crazy all summer long with little help from me.

‘Dreamland Pink’ is a dwarf zinnia that grows 10-12 inches tall with medium-pink double flowers. I like to plant the 4-inch, dahlia-type blooms next to purple salvias or ageratums.

Em, anytime you want to split (and share) the Royal Butterfly daylily, throw a clump my way. I’ll find a place for it. It is such a beautiful flower!!
