I’ve already declared it a Garden Winner, but I must give a shout-out to daylily ‘Buttered Popcorn’ once again.
You just can’t ask for a better-performing perennial. The plants bloom like crazy for months each summer, and I can’t tell the difference in behavior between plants growing in full sun and those growing in partial-shade.
I divided this plant in 2012. In 2013 this is what I got day after day for weeks:
‘Buttered Popcorn’ is a rebloomer in many parts of the country. Daylilies rarely rebloom for me in my Zone 5 garden, but ‘Buttered Popcorn’ has indeed sent up a few bonus scapes as summer fades into fall each year.
The 6-inch flowers appear on very tall, 32-inch scapes. This daylily grows quickly, so it’s very economical to buy one plant and divide it into many blooming-fool plants in just a few short years.
I like planting the gold flowers of ‘Buttered Popcorn’ next to purples like balloon flower or reds like daylilies or zinnias or astilbes to really showcase the bold color.
‘Buttered Popcorn’ is a fragrant daylily that blooms later in the daylily season and is hardy in Zones 3-9.
