Some of my best-looking flowers this year are volunteers. I don’t remember the last time I planted ‘Indian Summer’ Rudbeckia in this location, but this summer they popped up as if they’d been growing here all the time:
Several borage plants sprouted and shared their gorgeous sky-blue flowers that the bumblebees love so much:
My favorite Knock Out Rose didn’t survive winter. I didn’t dig it up because I was giving it every opportunity to come back to life. That left an ugly, dead stump in the front of one of my flowerbeds. Thankfully some calliopsis plants self-seeded and completely covered up that stump:
And even the petunias are getting into the act. I found this Tidal Wave petunia growing from a crack between the patio pavers:
