Rudbeckia Reappearance

For a number of years I grew Rudbeckia ‘Chim Chiminee’. Then the cultivar disappeared off the face of the earth, and I forgot about it.

The plants have interesting quilled petals in shades of gold, orange and brown. Last year ‘Chim Chiminee’ mysteriously reappeared in several garden catalogs, so I ordered and sprouted some seeds. I was quickly reminded why I enjoy this plant:

‘Chim Chiminee’ grows 24 to 30 inches tall in full sun or partial-shade. The cultivar is really a perennial that is grown as an annual in colder areas. I’ve had a few plants survive winter and return for me the following spring, but I sprout mine indoors from seed about 12 weeks before our last frost date.
