Petunia ‘Easy Wave Burgundy Velour’

I have my petunia favorites (the Opera series is high on my list), but I always like to experiment with a new cultivar or two each season. This year I took a stab at ‘Easy Wave Burgundy Velour’.

The flowers are a rich royal-purple. Some of them have a darker-purple glow to them:

The flowers hold their brilliant color even in the hot summer sun, and they don’t fade as they age either.

‘Easy Wave Burgundy Velour’ grows 6 to 12 inches tall and spreads 30 to 40 inches. The plants have a mounded habit. This is what mine looked like in early July:

This petunia isn’t particularly fast-growing, but I like that because the plants haven’t gotten leggy. And I haven’t had to trim them or do any sort of maintenance on them at all except to water them regularly.

The color is fun to play with. It really stands out near gold or white flowers, but various shades of pink would also work well. I sometimes switch my pots around on the patio to try different color combinations. One color partner I haven’t tried, but I bet would look really cool, is orange.
