This spring I took a chance on a new corydalis called ‘Berry Exciting’. I already grow the regular corydalis which has ferny green foliage and fragrant golden-yellow flowers that bloom all summer:
‘Berry Exciting’ mixes things up a bit. The lacy foliage is gold instead of green and the flowers (still fragrant!) are purple:
‘Berry Exciting’ grows 10 inches tall and prefers partial shade to full shade. I planted two of them in a flowerbed that sits under a sprawling oak tree. They are listed as Zone 5-9 plants and I’m in Zone 5b so it will be interesting to see if they survive the winter. For now I will enjoy the beautiful foliage.
