Timid Coneflowers

In 2015 ‘Cheyenne Spirit’ Echinaceas really made an impression on me (I took this photo at a botanical garden):

But in their second year in my garden, my own plants were less than impressive. They grew only about a foot tall and were very stingy with the flowers.

The flowers that did appear all had recurved petals as if they were embarrassed to be seen in public.

The growing season was often brutal last year, so I’m not prepared to write off these pretty coneflowers quite yet, but they’re on notice.
