Just like last summer, the Japanese Beetles devoured my ‘Lofty Lady’ marigolds so enthusiastically that for almost a month I didn’t get to see a single flower unfurl.
I’m glad I didn’t let that discourage me from growing these wonderful plants again because the beetles have started to disappear for the summer and ‘Lofty Lady’ is really giving me my money’s worth:
This is a tall marigold for the back of the border. The plants grow 3 to 4 feet tall and are smothered in golden-yellow flowers.
Because these plants bloom so heavily I do use a single stake to give the main stem of the plants some support, but those blossoms are so tightly-whorled that they are surprisingly rain resilient.
‘Lofty Lady’ is drought tolerant and the plants are happy growing in full or part-sun. They aren’t bothered by pests and diseases and they’ll keep blooming until a killing frost.
