That crazy amount of snow was almost worth it for the gorgeous sunny spring day we had yesterday. The neighborhood was alive with birds songs. I even heard the rattling of Sandhill Cranes overhead a few times.
I was taking an inventory of the daylilies I need to divide when a Cardinal landed in the oak tree above my head and starting singing his fool head off. Another Cardinal answered him in the distance and he got very quiet. He looked around for a bit and then started the song again, but this time he sang it over and over in almost a whisper, as if he was practicing to get it just right.
In the same tree I spotted a squirrel napping. He opened his eyes a little when I tried to sneak closer for a better photo. I love how he sleeps with his tail propped straight up in the air.
