When I was nurturing and planting my homegrown annuals this spring I thought the verbena seeds I ordered would be producing purple flowers. This is not purple (but it’s pretty)!
I looked through my seed lists and I’ve just been remembering it wrong this whole time. I ordered Verbena ‘Obsession Twister Red’ and that’s what this plant is.
This cultivar grows 6 to 8 inches tall with pleasant pinkish-red-and-white flowers.
The plants sprouted easily from seed with an excellent germination rate, and the seedlings behaved well in the packs before I planted them outside. So far no bugs, critters or diseases have bothered them.
I haven’t grown verbena in many years. Usually they poop out on me in late July and are done for the season. This one received Europe’s Fleuroselect Novelty Award, so I’m cautiously optimistic that it will do great things.
