This spot of brown grass in my yard (about 3 feet in diameter) has been driving me nuts, but I haven’t had any time to do anything about it.
Yesterday I grabbed a bag of topsoil with one hand and a bag of grass seed with the other and marched out there to fix the area before we got more rain.
I walked to the spot, dropped my bags and then quickly scooped them up again and ran for my life. Holy cow, the mosquito situation is insane!
There have been stories on the local news for the last few days about the out-of-control flood mosquito population in the area, but I hadn’t been out in my backyard in the last several days to find out for myself until yesterday.
A local entomologist was interviewed on TV the other night and said that usually in September they catch from 10 to 40 mosquitoes in a trap. Right now their traps are averaging 5000 mosquitoes, and one trap had 13,000!
I guess I’ll be staring at my brown patch of grass from inside of the house for awhile longer.
