I haven’t seen the Northern Flickers for a few weeks now, but I’m glad my Red-breasted Nuthatches are still hanging around.
It’s been a very weird winter so far. We’ve only received a total of 9″ of snow, so the feeders haven’t been as busy as they usually are because there are still plenty of natural food options available for the birds.
Red-breasted Nuthatches only winter in our area when the tree seed crop in the Boreal forest of Canada is bad.
I know I have at least 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches visiting my feeders this season but there could be more. They are very busy little birds that move very fast, so they’re hard to keep track of!
