For the last several years goldfinches have landed on the shepherd’s hook above our hummingbird feeder and then they shimmy down the metal stem to drink from the ant moat. I don’t mind this behavior, but it seems kind of silly when there are 4 other birdbaths in the yard to choose from. Maybe they are afraid of drowning?
So recently I purchased a tiny glass birdbath they could use instead. Except now they land on the shepherd’s hook and look around like they can’t decide what to do next. I haven’t seen any birds use the little blue bath, and I’ve only seen one bird slide down the pole to drink from the hummingbird ant moat.
Apparently I’ve caused bird analysis paralysis.
