Begonia ‘Funky Pink’

Call me crazy but one of my requirements for a garden flower is that I shouldn’t have to work too hard to see the blooms. That’s why I refuse to grow down-facing lilies.

This year I tried a new begonia called ‘Funky Pink’. Yes it has a weeping, semi-trailing habit, but I still figured there would be enough blooms on the top of the plant to enjoy as well. I figured wrong. Topside, all you really see is green:

But when I crawled around to snap a few photos, I was surprised how large and lovely the double flowers are.

This would be a terrific cultivar for hanging baskets. ‘Funky Pink’ grows 8 to 12 inches tall and spreads (hangs) about 18 inches.

If I had a place to grow these plants where I could actually admire the blooms from underneath I might give this cultivar another try.
