I had my earliest arrival ever for orioles at my feeders during a migration season this year. Last Wednesday a little Orchard Oriole showed up and stuck around for about 5 days. The following day a couple of Baltimore Orioles dropped in. But since then only the “locals” have been at the feeders (cardinals, robins, chickadees, nuthatches, finches).
Perhaps I’m just getting ahead of myself and more migrating birds will arrive in the next few days. Or maybe so many more people stuck at home right now are feeding birds this year (or remembering to regularly fill their feeders) and migrating birds have many more places to drop in, rest and refuel for their journeys north for the summer.
