I used to thumb my nose at Profusion zinnias because they only came in three colors (orange, white and cherry) and the flowers were just not as flashy as the big blooms on the Dreamlands or Magellans.
A few years ago the breeders introduced some new colors including ‘Deep Apricot’. I tried ‘Deep Apricot’ (pictured below) and was reminded how easy Profusion zinnias are to sprout from seed and how pest and disease-free they are in the garden:
This year I tried another new color–‘Coral Pink’:
The blooms start out very dark coral-pink and fade as they age. The flowers are pretty at all stages.
‘Coral Pink’ grows 12 inches high and 15 inches wide. The plants tolerate heat, shrug off thunderstorms, and will bloom until frost if deadheaded. They don’t get powdery mildew like some of the other zinnias and Japanese Beetles aren’t the slightest bit interested in the flowers. You can’t ask for much more from an annual.
