For several years I sprouted Begonia ‘Santa Cruz Sunset’ from seed and used them in my barrels. But the seeds kept getting more and more expensive, so this year I switched to Begonia ‘Bossa Nova Rose’.
Right off the bat I’ll say that the “rose” color is more like a salmon-red.
The plants are supposed to grow 12 to 16 inches tall with a spread of up to 20 inches wide and they should bloom until fall without needing any deadheading.
My homegrown plants always have to battle digging chipmunks when they are first planted in containers, so they get a slow start as their roots are continually disturbed. But the critters seem to have moved beyond their digging phase now, and I gave the begonias their first fertilizer drink, so I expect them to take off soon.
