Over 30 years of gardening I’ve never been a fan of white zinnias or hostas, but lately I’ve been appreciating both like never before.
Zinnia ‘Magellan Ivory’ grows about 15 inches tall with 5-inch flowers. I would call them white with a yellowish cast.
The Magellan series zinnias are excellent border plants (just like the Dreamland series). They begin blooming early and continue throughout the summer until frost if kept deadheaded.
Unlike tall zinnias, I’ve never seen Magellans have trouble with powdery mildew. And while bunnies will happily chew on taller zinnia cultivars (like Benary’s or Oklahoma or Parks Picks), I’ve never seen any bunny damage on a Magellan zinnia (or a Dreamland either for that matter).
I start my Magellan zinnias indoors about 5 weeks before the last frost date for our area.
