We ate our last garden tomato over the weekend. I picked it green 4 weeks ago and it slowly ripened on the kitchen counter and stayed surprisingly disease-free.
The season officially ends just as seed catalogs are starting to roll in for next year’s garden! It feels early, but I usually order most of my seeds over Thanksgiving weekend when there may be a free shipping offer or two.
Some years, by the time the seed catalogs arrive, I’ve already started to forget what worked and didn’t work for the most recent gardening season. But since I pulled out my last salvias and marigolds from the garden last week, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to grow next summer and what I plan to skip (I’m talking to you, cosmos!).
