‘Dandy Dave’ daylily grows next to my screen porch where I can admire the flowers. Those giant, 7-inch flowers are some of the first to appear during the daylily season among my 400+ cultivars.
In the morning light the colors are lusciously dark. The official registered color is “rose burgundy with burgundy eye and edge above a yellow throat.”
Like many other daylilies, that color fades a bit to more of a mauve in the hot afternoon sun. And then the flowers also open wider to expose that pretty, dark-yellow throat.
‘Dandy Dave’ grows 28 inches tall and always blooms for more than a month for me each summer.
