I love adding interesting colors to my garden which is why I’m so fond of the daylily ‘Summer Wine.’ The color is difficult to describe, but it really grabs your attention. I pressured my friend into buying one and she fell in love with it as well. In fact, when we go on daylily tours or to places that sell daylilies we find ourselves spotting this beauty from afar and insisting we have to have it. Then we discover we already do!
‘Summer Wine’ is an older cultivar (1973) so it’s really inexpensive (the Flower Factory was selling it for $5.75 this year). It grows 24 inches tall with 5.5-inch blooms.
I planted mine next to balloon flowers (you can see one peeking out at the top of the photo below) and the color combination is electric:
