Mums That Survived the Frost

About half of my annuals froze last week when the overnight temperature dipped below freezing, but the frost-resistant hardy perennial mum ‘MinnRuby’ wasn’t affected at all.

This tough plant has grown on the top of a wall on the north side of my house for more than 15 years now, and I’ve never divided it.

The plants grow 24 inches tall with dark-red flowers.

One of the garden center fall mums I bought in August also survived the hard frost:

But when I saw the forecast I didn’t take any chances with my tri-colored monster mum.

Until it’s done blooming it will now spending the rest of fall on our protected screen porch.
