The next window hyacinth to add some color and fragrance to winter around here is ‘Miss Saigon’.

The pretty light-purple flowers grow 8 to 12 inches tall.

If grown outdoors the bulbs will bloom in April. They prefer full or partial-sun and are hardy in Zones 4-8.

I potted up these bulbs in November and stored them in a refrigerator for 12 weeks. Forcing bulbs that way is easy—just make sure there aren’t apples in the refrigerator because the ethylene they give off can harm the bulbs.

‘Miss Saigon’ has a lovely fragrance, and this cultivar won the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
