Snappy Snowdrops

The February snow melted just in time for the Snowdrops (Galanthus elwesii) to appear.

According to the phenology information I record for my yard each year, Snowdrops routinely appear in middle to late February.

Last year they started blooming already on February 9, but it was a weird winter. We had severe thunderstorms rather than snow in February, and Wisconsin even recorded its first-ever February tornadoes.

I looked around the yard for other signs of growth and found some daffodils peeking up as well!

I planted a few small spring bulbs last fall, but apparently I didn’t write down their locations. In upcoming weeks I’ll be on a little backyard treasure hunt for spring flowers!
