Another plant that ranks high on pollinator-friendly lists is catmint (nepata).
I’m not sure why I’ve never tried growing this perennial before. Perhaps it’s because it can sprawl, and I prefer well-behaved plants.

I chose a Proven Winner cultivar called ‘Cat’s Meow’ that is supposed to be more refined and have strong stems. It’s also a hybrid, so it won’t self-seed.
It caught my eye because it even looked tidy in the pot.

‘Cat’s Meow’ grows about 20 inches tall with little purple flower spikes. The plants prefer sun (which I don’t have). However this perennial doesn’t like high heat and humidity, so maybe growing it in an area that gets a little shade in the afternoons will be a good thing.
Catmint is drought-tolerant once established, and it likes well-drained soil.
The plants can be sheared back after the initial bloom which may encourage them to rebloom.
‘Cat’s Meow’ is hardy in Zones 3-8.
